About

I like aliens, time travel and movies about aliens and time travel.

My name is Maddison, but online it's easier to call me Madd because it's faster to type. I'm 25 years old and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. Well, technically I live in Concord, but that's basically Charlotte. I moved to Concord because in a few weeks I'll be attending Cabarrus College for their Occupational Therapy Assistant program. I learned about Occupational Therapy through working at Martial Arts University and meeting kids who do OT. I hope to make a long-term career out of helping people with their ADLs (activities of daily living).

I'm a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism. I went to Chapel Hill specifically for journalism but soon fell into a work-study job at the theater on campus (PlayMakers) and fell in love. I spent most of college juggling several theater jobs, always working in the props department. I loved making props because every day when I came to work it was some new problem to solve, some new thing to make, some new skill to learn. I could weld a double-sided ax in the morning and then sew a stuffed elephant in the afternoon.

After college, in pursuit of a career in theater, I quickly learned that it wasn't something I could do for the rest of my life. I miss working with my hands and making things though, so that's why I made my Etsy store, MaddMadeShop. I love crocheting and sewing, and one day I hope to have a workshop where I can also do carpentry, welding and upholstery.

On the weekends, you can find me singing in the choir at my super liberal church called Wedgewood. The other choir members call me a "solo ho," and I can't really argue with them. During the week, you might find me at Martial Arts University as I train to test for my 5th degree black belt.

And all other times of day, you can find me writing. The only thing 10-year-old me ever really wanted to do was write and be a writer. While I haven't published a novel or anything like that, I do have a pretty serious audience for my fanfiction and I'm always posting stories. Ten-year-old me would be so proud.

Things I enjoy:

  1. Talking shit about the TV show Supernatural while actively watching it, blogging about it and writing hundreds of thousands of words of fanfiction for it
  2.  The podcast How Did This Get Made and the comedians who run said podcast
  3. The Carolina Panthers, the NFL in general and the nostalgic thrill of screaming at the TV during games
  4. Going to New York City and sitting in line for several hours to get cheap tickets to Broadway shows
  5. Watching a movie and then immediately looking up reviews of said movie whether I enjoyed it or not
  6. Black olives.
